Despite the summer sun featuring quite consistently in our weekends at the moment, there are some days when you feel Autumn’s breeze come a knockin’.

So let’s take a lesson from Robert Baden-Powell and help our men ‘Be Prepared’, with some of these transitional pieces from Uniqlo and Burtons.

Uniqlo has a bunch of weird and wonderful t-shirts for hot summer days and cooler times when teamed with a sleek leather jacket or a bit of messy denim.

In Sainsbury’s the other day, as I was waiting in the queue, a man caught my eye.

A regular, good-looking guy, (the kind that would generally catch my eye) but there was something different about this one.

Decked out in jeans, flip-flops, a shocking red and yellow tee paired with bright shades and a statement red watch – this guy was a show-stopper.

It made me wonder why men don’t wear bright colours more often. Sure – there are plenty of guys out there dressed up to the nines every day of the week, but I feel like this trend could translate to the everyday man as well.

If you think your man could benefit from some new items enabling him to keep up with your fashionista ways, then summer is the perfect time to encourage him to have some fun with colour for a change.

A great idea for men that want to add some colour to their look right now is the addition of a statement item, accessory or clothing.

So let us not worry about who can wear what and encourage the man in your life to stand out and be counted because well… why not?!

This yellow crew neck t-shirt is a good example of  the understated edginess which Lyle & Scott are known for. I like this t-shirt because it has been cut in a way which lets it hang loose on the body and it can be worn with jeans or shorts.  Priced at a very tempting £35 from Asos it’s not going to make a big dent in his bank balance.

I’ve also picked out this unisex pacific blue tie which is a nice surprise from American Apparel because it is usually known for its t-shirts, hoodies, lycra and casual wear. Smarten your man up with this simple tie which is great for the office and will make him look a little bit more ‘conservative’ but not in a David Cameron kind of way!

Pick your favourite for your man to show your political pride, or put em together to cause a little stir!

Get him kitted out with these Fred Perry checked shorts which are a great example of how to wear tartan without it being too overpowering and garish. Go for something simple on top by pairing these shorts with a plain white tee (only £7 from Topman!) and a pair of slim black braces which are also a bit of a steal at £12. No punk look would be complete without a pair of Dr Martens, I’ve chosen these classic black 8 eye boots. They are definitely ‘on trend’ for this season as high street stores such as Urban Outfitters recently celebrated the 50th birthday of the Air Ware boots at the beginning of this month.

There are plenty of army surplus style accessories available on the high street at the moment which will help polish off your man’s outfit and tie in nicely with the military look which has also been a key trend of recent months. Grab him one of these Renewal Cold War Man Bags which are available from Urban Outfitters now priced at £14 reduced from £28. It’s a great size to keep all his essentials safe whilst also looking macho enough that he won’t be worried about what his mates might say.
