Go crazy for Mad Men styles

There are many hit shows and characters that influence fashion on the high street but recently none have done so quite like Mad Men.

The award-winning show has gripped men and women alike with the smooth talking, whiskey drinking, smoke filled beautiful people of Madison Avenue. Fashion is always cyclic and this side of the 60’s was well due a comeback in my opinion.

The three women leading the pack in the fashion stakes are Betty Draper, Joan Harris (née Holloway) and the leading lady Peggy Olson. All with different styles, shapes and hair colours they offer something for every kind of woman.

Firstly there is Betty Draper who is played by January Jones and styled 2010-05-21_1653upon Grace Kelly; she is blonde, flawless and radiates regality. Her style consists of classic feminine dresses with an a-line skirt and here at Thinpurse we have found two items from Jane Norman that we feel fit the bill.
This bandeau stripe prom dress (1) is just her style with a simple monochrome pattern and satin sash waist belt. There is also a net trimmed petticoat underneath and the item is reduced from £45 to £33.75! The second Bettyesque item is this full lace skirt (2) that is feminine, flirty and demure with a petticoat for extra fullness, reduced to £21.

Representing all the curvaceous women out there is Joan Harris with her full figure and beautiful red hair; her style is based upon the famous curves of Marilyn Monroe. This Pink cowl neck dress from Planet (3) is perfect for pulling in your waist to accentuate your hips and the soft neck line and front drape help to flatter tummies as well as top heavy women. In addition to being stunning and suitable for a variety of occasions this dress has been reduced from £89 to £59.

Last but by no means least we have Peggy Olson, her style is original and 2010-05-21_1659generally involves an unassuming cut teamed with a variety of patterns.

This belted check dress from Bhs (4) is on offer for £17.50 reduced from £35 and is perfect for slim women who want to show off their great arms. The mixed pattern is quite striking and we think it has a real ‘Peggy’ feel to it.

With all these fabulous dresses for working women out there why not go retro and add a 60’s vibe to the office – but maybe we’ll leave the mid-morning whiskey and cigarette for special occasions…Fridays perhaps!
