Just when I thought the tote bag craze was coming to an end I first discovered Alphabet Bags just before Christmas and since then I haven’t looked back.
Not only have I been able to carry twice as much as I would normally be able to fit in my handbag but some of the Alphabet Bag range is now hitting the high street and are now available from Urban Outiftters (1).
The trend for tote bags really took off back in 2007 with Anya Hindmarch’s ‘I’m Not a Plastic Bag’ which sparked a whole wave of imitations along similar ethical lines as well some more original fashion focused bags as a subsequence.
As fashion is a cyclical process, this could be the start of a new burst of tote enthusiasm as it’s now cool to be seen with a canvas bag in a non granny kind of way.
Here are my top three favourites from the Alphabet collection which are all available on their website:
Choose your letter and go for one of the classic designs like this black and white ‘A’ bag (2) for example which is available online for £12. Why not choose your own initials or make it a lovely personalised present for a friend?
Alphabet Bags have recently extended their collection to incorporate short punchy phrases in their bag designs which are written in a range of type faces which are sure to delight any graphic designer or fashionista. Check out this ‘You look lovely today bag’ (3) for the bargainous price of £10.
The great thing about these bags is that they’re unisex so buy one for your man and he can be the one to carry the shopping! I love this old fashioned Gentleman design (4) because the simple black silhouette on the white tote gives it a contemporary touch.
So watch this space, they will shortly be releasing a range of purses, sign up to the newsletter by clicking the link on their homepage to be one of the first to know when they will be in stock. Be sure to snap one up before your friends!
