Easter weekend was all about American Apparel. Bargain hunters flocked in their droves to the rummage sale on Brick Lane which had close to 30,000 attendees on the Facebook group and made national news.  I went to check it out when it opened at 10am on Friday morning and the sheer volume of eager shoppers who turned up meant that it had to be shut down by police until the next day! Dedicated as I am, I went back to snap up some fabulously stylish yet stretchy goodies on Saturday.  Here are a few things which I love from their current range:

Check out this simple and sophisticated baby rib pocket frock, only £29 which is so cute when paired with this white bow sash.

American Apparel are great for their basics, t-shirts, leggings, vests and their styles always look cool and are not just for the super skinny. Check out this acid wash v-neck t-shirt which can be worn with a high-waisted skirt or paired with leggings or skinny jeans and at £16, it’s a very reasonable snatch.

There is also a very trendy range of ‘not so basic’ t-shirts which we are going to see a lot more of over the summer. I especially like this Viva Radio t-shirt priced at £22 and available to purchase here. It looks great when worn a little baggy tucked into jeans or a skirt and can be dressed up for work or worn at gig at the weekend. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on their website for more of these edgy designs in the next few months.

One of the reasons why American Apparel has been such a hit in the UK is because they pride themselves on being sweatshop free. Now that we’re a lot more ethically minded and take more of an interest in how our clothes are made this has meant that the high street is cleaning up their act when it comes to being fair to their workers and charging realistic prices. Guilt free bargain hunting means that this is a brand which deserve to be successful and they manage to be pretty damn cool at the same time.
